Band Together

Band Together

It seems like a simple thing to do, to be unified but we can make it quite difficult. Now people are different in their own way and nobody is exactly the same. So don’t think of unity as everyone being the same. Unity is a mindset. A mindset that is then put into your actions.  A people who are united are strong. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a difference of opinions. It’s great to have different ideas. Different ideas can help you grow and mature.  What everybody fears is unity’s top opposition.

Division is being separate. Not together. It is very easy to be divisive. When you put into action a mindset of division, you then have conflict which tears unity apart.

There is a way to discuss the different ideas and items and not be divisive in your actions and speech.  Paul had to deal with a church in Corinth that was divisive and wrote to them so they could put a stop to it.

Corinthians 1:10-13, 17

10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?

17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

If the division of the church at Corinth wasn’t put to rest it would destroy itself from the inside.  The body of Christ, the church, must realize this same thing today and try to form unity. There are so many things Satan tries to use in the world to ruin the people of God.  We cannot allow ourselves to be another reason added to those things. We must unify under the Holy Spirit and grow and mature to further glorify God.
