Faith Placement

Faith Placement

How well do you receive things?  Would you listen to a car salesman give you advice on your plumbing? Would you let a lawyer tell you how the plans of a building should be? Those probably wouldn’t be your first choices. You go to a car salesman to discuss his vehicles that he promotes.  You call your plumber for those leaky pipes, lawyer for legal proceedings, and an engineer to design plans. You depend on the specialist for the advice in their field. How about when it comes to the bible?

Your pastor is definitely in the forefront for this one.  The Bible does tell us though that we cannot put it all on our pastors.  We have to be responsible in our relationship with God. The apostle Paul warned the Corinthians of their division because of them putting their faith in the messengers and not the message.

1Corinthians 1:11-17

11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now I say this that each of you says, “I am of Paul, or I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

See people were being divided because of their own ideas of the speakers. Some would follow only Paul’s message, while some only followed his companion Apollos. Some would only listen to Cephas (Peter) and others only what they heard from Jesus himself. None of these were right because they were all dependent on the vessel delivering the word and not focused on learning what God was providing.

We cannot fall in this same dilemma. We must not become divided especially in these times when the church needs its believers united, serving God. Follow your leader and believe in him to teach you God’s message but know that it’s not his message but God’s message and he is but the vessel. Be thankful we have a pastor who is about the teaching of God’s word and love and is invested in our spiritual growth. We have been blessed, now let us be united in our faith.
