Stay Persistent

Stay Persistent

Continuing firmly or obstinately in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. Persistent, as described in Webster’s Dictionary.

How many times have you given up on something because no matter what it just seemed like it wasn’t going to work out in your favor? You get tired and somewhat broken down and the easiest choice would be to abandon ship and just cut the losses.  This happens a lot in the life of a Christian. Don’t feel down, you are not the only one who has dealt with such a thing. There is a scripture that has an example of this. When you read this passage in Luke you may just think that it’s just Jesus showing the disciples His power.  Really He was teaching them, and since it’s written in the bible it’s for us as well, that even though the task is tough we cannot give up.  We need to keep fighting on.

Luke 5:1-11

As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word, He was standing by Lake Gennesaret. 2 He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Then He sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat. 4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing! But at Your word, I’ll let down the nets.”6 When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” 9 For he and all those with him were amazed at the catch of fish they took, 10 and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners. “Don’t be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people!” 11 Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed Him.

We must be persistent church! We must continue to spread the gospel of Christ. Our biggest downfall is we want to do it our way and we need to understand that we must listen to God’s will for our ministry and our witness. When we listen like Peter did, we will have the results that Peter got, but only when we put our complete faith into the task.  Whatever your battle is right now, don’t be discouraged. God is with us and our Church members are here to support. Be fishers of men; stay persistent.
